Through Her Lens: Cezaryna Dzawala

courier: Let’s start with a bit about you—what brings you to Salt Lake City, Utah?

Cezaryna: My name is Cezaryna, but everyone calls me Ceza. I was born and raised in Krakow, Poland, but I’m now based in Salt Lake City. I moved here for my passion—snowboarding. But once you’re living full-time in a mountain town, you start appreciating the trails, too.  When I wasn’t on the slopes, I hit the trails, and before I knew it, trail running took over as my biggest love.

That summer I found trail running, I entered every single race in the Cirque series—local trail races founded by my friend Julian Carr, who’s a skiing legend around here. I’ve been hooked since 2016.

courier: What pulled you towards running photography?

Ceza: It all started with RUFA (Running Up for Air). It’s an event that raises awareness about Utah’s air quality, which is some of the worst in the U.S. Jared Campbell, a local climber and runner, started it to bring attention to this toxic winter inversion that sits over the valley. I’d never thought about photography as a career, but this cause pushed me to pick up a camera, and I haven’t looked back since.

courier: Any standout places you’ve photographed?

Ceza: Every place has its magic, honestly, but Canyon de Chelly really stands out. I was working on a documentary with Kodiak Cakes about Deshawna, a Diné ultra runner. She shared her land, her home, and invited us into her community. That place, that project—it’s unforgettable.

courier: How has your running community shaped your career?

Ceza: My running community, especially Women of the Wasatch and Not That Serious Run Club, has been instrumental in my growth as a photographer. The friendships I've made have led to incredible opportunities, like the upcoming all-women trail running camp in Moab.

courier: What resonated with you about the Courier brand?

Ceza: Courier’s minimalist, stylish vibe totally matches my aesthetic. I wanted to capture Salt Lake's iconic scenery with the Wasatch in the background. I also couldn’t resist a nod to the trendy 'legs out of a fancy car’ shot—only our version was Diego’s legs dangling out of a Subaru Outback for a bit of dirtbag charm.
